Located in the west-central area of the state, with an estimated present population of 4,022, consisting of approximately 1,755 households, Storey County has the state’s 5th highest Annual Median Household Income (AMHI), at $61,374 per household. In 2017 the county ranked 15th in total population among Nevada’s seventeen counties. Virginia City, the county seat, is a Census Designated Place (CDP) and is located in the south-southwest part of the county along State Route 341.

The majority of the county’s residents live in the Virginia City area. Unincorporated areas within the county include Clark, Devils Gate, Gilpin, Gold Hill, Virginia Highlands, Mark Twain and Lockwood. The two defined housing market areas include Virginia City and the Clark/Gilpin area. The remainder of the county represents the areas outside the two defined housing market areas. Storey County Serves as the home of the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center (TRIC), whose landmass equates to 54% of Storey County’s total Land area, is the largest industrial park in the United States. At the time this information was collected, 95.8% of the county’s population was employed in the Private Sector, and the remaining 4.2% in Government related jobs.
