Located in the north-central area of the state, Lander County has an estimated present population of 6,534, consisting of approximately 2,474 households. Lander County boasts the state’s highest Annual Median Household Income (AMHI), at $82,527 per household. In 2017 the county ranked 12th in total population among Nevada’s seventeen counties. The Township of Battle Mountain serves as the county seat, is located in the north-northwest part of the county at the intersection of Interstate 80 and State Route 305, and is a Census Designated Place (CDP).

The majority of the county’s residents live in Battle Mountain. Other unincorporated areas within the county include the towns of Austin, Galena, Kingston, Pittsburg and Rixie. These communities, with slightly more than 300 people combined, are situated approximately 90 to 120 miles south of Battle Mountain and are not considered defined housing market areas in the County. At the time this information was collected, 83.8% of the county’s population was employed in the Private Sector, and the remaining 16.2% in Government related jobs.
