Located in the northwest-central area of the state, Pershing County has an estimated present population of 6,878, consisting of approximately 2,109 households. With the state’s 10th lowest Annual Median Household Income (AMHI) at $52,454 per household, in 2017 the county ranked 11th in total population among Nevada’s seventeen counties. Lovelock, the county seat, is the only city in the County and is located in the south-central part of the county.

Lovelock is the only defined housing market area in the county. Unincorporated areas within the county include Imlay, Mill City, Grass Valley, Oreana and Rye Patch. These unincorporated areas, with less than 500 people combined, are located approximately 14 to 40 miles north-northeast of Lovelock and are not considered housing market areas for Pershing County. At the time this information was collected the city’s economy was based primarily on tourism, new mining and employment at the Lovelock Correctional Center. 60.7% of the county’s population is employed in the Private Sector, and the remaining 39.3% in Government related jobs.
